Majid Al Futtaim’s Carrefour and Dubai-based payment processor Network International have launched a face recognition payment system in the UAE. Known as Face Pay, it allows customers to make payments at checkout by simply showing their face.
PopID, a company specializing in facial recognition technology, developed the system. Currently, Face Pay is only available at select Carrefour stores in Deira and Jumeirah, but it will soon be rolled out across the UAE.
Customers can sign up for Face Pay through the Carrefour mobile app or website. This move towards facial recognition payments aligns with the growing trend of cashless transactions in the UAE, with 69% of transactions expected to be cashless in the Middle East this year, according to the MENA Fintech Association.
